Dr. Abhishek Ghosh currently works as an Associate Professor in the Drug De-addiction & Treatment Centre & Department of Psychiatry, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh. After completing his basic medical graduation, Dr. Ghosh did a 3-year Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in Psychiatry and another 3-years of super-specialty Doctorate of Medicine (D.M.) in Addiction Psychiatry.
His research focus is on addictive disorders in general, with a special interest in screening and brief interventions (SBI) for substance misuse. His goal of SBI research is to innovate, integrate, and implement brief intervention (BI) in community and clinical care. His group has recently completed clinical trials examining the efficacy of the brief intervention in college students and individuals with dual disorders. Two federally sponsored (Indian Council of Medical Research & Department of Science & Technology, New Delhi, Government of India) clinical trials on electronic screening and brief intervention are currently underway. Another trial of direct and synchronous online BI has also been started with Institutional funding support. An RCT of enhanced-SBI for the prison population has received approval for federal funding and is in the pipeline. Dr. Ghosh is a fellow of the International Society of Addiction Medicine. He is a member of the INEBRIA network and ENIGMA-Addiction group. He periodically provides training on SBI to nurses, counselors, peer educators, and program managers as a consultant with the National Institute of Social Defense, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
