James R. Langabeer II, PhD, EdD, FACHE Professor of Emergency Medicine, Health Policy, and Biomedical Informatics Director of HEROES (Houston ER Opioid Engagement System) UTHealth: The University of Texas Health Science Center Houston, Texas Bio: Dr. Langabeer is a cognitive scientist and clinical researcher that focuses on emergency and addiction medicine.
Dr. Langabeer leads a comprehensive system of care for managing opioid use disorder, called the Houston Emergency Opioid Engagement System (HEROES), funded through the SAMHSA state opioid response grants in Texas. His research centers around quality of care, outcomes, and decision making in medicine. He is a member of the American Society for Addiction Medicine, the American Psychological Association, and the American Heart Association. Dr. Langabeer also serves as the National Chair of the Ambulatory Health Quality Committee for the American Heart Association, and is the Associate Editor of the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine.
